Hi, my name is May Proctor, and I am a student at UNC-Chapel Hill, majoring in Media and Journalism and minoring in Geology. My goal is to work in media and produce and edit professionally. I am especially passionate about sports and the environment, and often draw inspiration for my work from these areas.
One of my favorite projects to date was producing and editing a story for PBS North Carolina's show, NC Weekend (to air in December 2025).
I am most active in the video, multimedia and sports journalism spaces. I am an assistant editor on the audio-visual desk on UNC's student newspaper, The Daily Tar Heel, and I am a crew member and reporter on UNC's student-run sports broadcasting show: Sports Xtra.
Other Experiences
In March of 2025, I was selected as Sail GP Team New Zealand's intern for the Los Angeles Grand Prix. As a passionate sailor and creator of sports media, this was the ultimate learning experience.
I was able to learn from world-class sailors about the behind-the-scenes of professional sporting events. I was trusted with working on the boat and acting as a support team member. I also gained invaluable experience seeing how sports media functions from inside the team organization.
